Road to Omaha: What to Expect from the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament

Baseball fans, get ready! The 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament is just around the corner, and it promises to be another unforgettable ride through the heart of college baseball. As the 78th edition of this celebrated tournament, this year's championship will showcase the very best in collegiate talent, passion, and perseverance.

Whether you're rooting for a traditional powerhouse or a rising underdog, the Road to Omaha is about much more than just wins and losses. It's about the drama of elimination games, the thrill of walk-off victories, and the lifelong memories created on the diamond.

The Format: 64 Teams, One Champion
The tournament officially begins on Friday, May 30, 2025, with 64 teams selected from a field of over 300 eligible NCAA Division I programs. These teams will be divided into 16 regional brackets, each hosting four teams in a double-elimination format.

The 16 regional champions will advance to the Super Regionals, a best-of-three series that determines who will earn a coveted spot in the 2025 Men's College World Series, scheduled for June 13–23 in Omaha, Nebraska, at Charles Schwab Field.

Automatic Bids vs. At-Large Bids
Out of the 64 teams:
29 teams receive automatic bids for winning their conference tournaments or regular-season titles.
35 teams are selected as at-large bids by the NCAA Selection Committee, based on performance, strength of schedule, and other key metrics.
This mix ensures a healthy balance of elite programs and surprise contenders—just the way college sports fans like it.

Regional Host Sites
This year's regionals will be played across the country at some of the most iconic college baseball venues, including:

Foley Field (University of Georgia)
Plainsman Park (Auburn)
Alex Box Stadium (LSU)
PK Park (Oregon)
Baum–Walker Stadium (Arkansas)
Swayze Field (Ole Miss)
...and many more.

The locations were announced on May 25, and the top 16 national seeds will be revealed during the Selection Show on May 26.

Why This Year Is Special
Every year brings new storylines, but 2025 feels especially electric. Expect high drama, jaw-dropping performances, and future MLB stars making their mark. With programs like Tennessee, LSU, Vanderbilt, and Oregon State regularly fielding elite squads, fans can expect fierce competition and emotional finales.
