DIGIBox D3 Plus Review: Is This the New Android TV Box Winner?

I've reviewed many different Android TV boxes over the years, so it was no big surprise when the Digibox D3 Plus showed up on my doorstep. They sent me one to review, and I've been checking it out for the last two weeks. So, what do I think of it? Will it be your new best-binging buddy, or is it just another competitor in an overcrowded market? We'll find out today.

Digibox D3 Plus Overview
The Digibox D3 Plus is the latest Android TV box from Digibox. It has features like a high-performance A53 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage. The company says it supports both 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi bands and is compatible with the newer Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more stable connections. They also claim the D3 Plus delivers 6K HDR picture quality. While the quality was great, I don't think the 6K resolution mattered anyway.

Key Features
Voice Remote: Worked well in my testing, making searches more convenient.
USB Ports: Four USB ports, a unique feature among the boxes I've tested, allowing for multiple devices like an external hard drive, Bluetooth dongle, external keyboard, mouse, or game controller to be connected simultaneously.
Smartphone Control: The box can be controlled by a smartphone using a remote control app, but I haven't found a free one that works with the box yet. If anyone knows of one, let me know in the comments.

Setup and Interface
Initial Setup
Pairing the Remote: When you first turn on the box, your remote won't be paired, so ensure you put two AAA batteries in the back.
Connecting to Wi-Fi: Navigate to the settings using the wheel icon on your remote. Go to "Network and Internet" to sign in to your Wi-Fi network.

Bluetooth and Preferences
Bluetooth: Add your wireless Bluetooth devices like headphones or a keyboard.
Device Preferences: Set your date and time, time zone, and language.

Apps and Content
Once connected to the internet, download apps like your video-on-demand and live TV services. I already had them in my box. If not, go to the app store, download, and install them.

User Experience
Interface
Live TV (Cat TV): Loads quickly and is easy to navigate. Categories include sports, foreign TV channels, and pay-per-view events.
Video on Demand (Cat VOD): Offers various categories like new movies, series, and animes. The search function, especially the voice search, works well, although some classic content is missing.
Voice Search
The voice search feature saves time and effort, making it easier to find specific movies or shows without typing in every letter.

Additional Features
Customer Support: A QR code for customer service if you encounter any problems.
Free Mobile App: Allows simultaneous use on both the TV box and mobile devices with the same account.

Performance and Issues
Pros
No Buffering: Smooth playback with no buffering or loading errors.
Quality: Excellent picture quality on my 4K TCL TV.
User-Friendly: Easy-to-use interface, quick response to commands, and effective voice search.

Cons
Limited Classic Content: Not ideal for fans of classic TV shows or movies. Many older shows and some movies are missing.
Initial Search Confusion: The search function can be confusing initially, especially for finding older movies.
Price: At just under $300, it's not cheap, but there are no subscription fees or monthly charges.

The Digibox D3 Plus performs well with fast loading times and high-quality playback. It's user-friendly and has a great voice search feature. However, if you're a classic TV show and movie fan, you might be disappointed by the limited selection. Despite its higher price, the lack of subscription fees might make it a worthwhile investment for some.
